Whitley
Church (All Saints) gets new fence
Local residents
will be pleased to hear that the first phase of converting
the church to a village hall will be in place by the
end of April. Thanks to Whitley PC who allocated some
Section 106 funding, the church will have a new child
safe area fenced off to the rear of All Saints where
parents can take children on warm summer evenings for
a picnic or just to enjoy the sun.
The
fence will be erected on 26th April, and supplied by
local company Burn Fencing. The PCC would like to extend
a thanks to Richard Walker for his patience in waiting
for the project to be authorised by the church.

A19
Speeding Through Whitley - UPDATE
Residents
in the village should be aware that Steve urrell from
North Yorkshire Police has confirmed that following
the information provided by fitting a "black box
traffic data collector" across the A19 in Whitley
during February, the Police will be carrying our "regular
enforcement activities". A full analysis of
the data is yet to be completed.
Figures
analysed to date show that 77.8% of drivers through
the village were above the legal speed limit, of which
85% were above 41mph. The mean (average) speed of drivers
was 34mph with a top speed of 76mph.
There
is a petition which villagers can sign to support a
mandate for action regarding speeding in Whitley, you
can sign this at the George and Dragon pub or contact
John Watson for a copy (01977 661442). The goal is to
obtain a minimum of 300 signatures!

Whitley
Allotments
Its
happened at lastThe Parish Council has made a revised
offer for the land off Whitefield Lane. We have said
we will buy it for £10,000. This is more than
we had originally wanted to pay, but it is based on
an assurance by the land agent that the land owner is
very likely to agree to sell at this price. We are cautiously
optimistic that the deal will go though.
However,
one of our conditions of purchase is that we can get
vehicle access to the site.
The
Clerk to the Parish Council (Keith Leppingwell) is talking
to the National Coal Board about getting access via
the piece of land they own, which is at the eastern
end of the terrace of houses in Whitefield Lane. This
would potentially be ideal. It doesn't now look likely
that we will be able to get access via the rhubarb sheds
at the other end of the site.
If
the access issue can be sorted out we will press the
land agent to complete the sale as soon as possible.
However, these things are inherently slow, and with
the best will in the world I don't think that all the
transactions will be completed before June. Because
we are all itching to get planting, I have asked the
land agent to see if we might be able to get access
to the land pending completion of sale. He is looking
into this.
To
summarise - the project is potentially looking good
and making progress, although it has taken slightly
longer to reach this stage than oeriginally hoped. Please
contact Sue White with any questions (01977 662917).

Selby
Council - Refuse & Recycling Collections
It
is hoped that normal collections will resume for refuse
and recycling on Monday 11th January. This is of course
subject to weather conditions.
The priority will be to ensure that the service gets back
to normal as soon as possible.
In
terms of missed collections from last week, there will
be additional crews deployed on refuse collection to try
and cover those areas which were missed. (Tuesday, Wednesday
and part of Thursday last week).
Residents whose refuse collections were affected last
week should therefore continue to present their bins for
collection this week. At this moment in time we cannot
guarantee that the missed recycling collections will be
picked up as we are giving the priority to the refuse
collections.
If any recycling collections have to be 'rolled over'
until the next usual box collection day then additional
recycling will be taken away when left with the boxes.Garden
Green collections will continue to be suspended until
the service is back to normal and this resource is being
deployed on additional refuse collection to help clear
the back-log from last week.

Selby
Council - Refuse & Recycling Collections
Crews
are currently out working on today's scheduled work.
They will be concentrating firstly on all main roads
and roads that have been treated. They will be visiting
all areas but where the crews feel that the roads are
unsafe they will be unable to collect.
Once
all possible work has been completed today they will
start on work missed from Wednesday, where roads are
accessible. Tomorrow they will complete accessible work
scheduled for that day and then start on work missed
from Tuesday.
At
the weekend they will be returning to all areas from
this week that they have not previously been able to
access.
Because
the conditions of the roads in villages will vary it
isn't possible to give a definite day of collection
for anyone. We may be able to access some roads in one
village but not others but we will continue to try over
the weekend and into the beginning of next week to access
all properties.
This
is all subject to the weather conditions and we will
continue to update this information throughout the week.
Finally
we have taken the decision to suspend green waste collections
until the weather improves. This will allow us to use
the resource to tackle the back-log of refuse and kerbside
box collections.
