Although
Whitley is only a small North Yorkshire village, its
history has been traced back to the days of Knights
Templars circa 13th century. A Knights Templar grange
is sited just outside the village, where animals, fish
and crops were raised for the knights.
The
Historical Society in Whitley was formed in 2006 as
an off-shoot of developing the Village plan. The society
have identified a number of sites of interest and produced
a Heritage Trail leaflet, that enables people to follow
thr trail and see the sites. You can follow th trail
by starting at the George and Dragon pub in the centre
of our village.
