Selby Fire Service
Our local fire brigade is based at Selby, where two teams (known as watches) of firefighters are fulltime. There is Red watch and Blue watch, each of whom is ready to attend the numerous incidents they are called upon to visit. Approximately 19,000 emergency calls are received by the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service each year, resulting in over 9,000 incidents. A percentage of these are ‘Special Service’ calls.
Special Service calls are incidents which do not necessarily involve fire, but require the skills, expertise and equipment which the Service has built up over the years attending road traffic accidents, rail disasters, people trapped in machinery, etc. Below are pictures of our local heroes in Red watch and Blue watch....

How
do I know that a visitor to my home is a real fireman?
All fire fighters
carry photographic ID cards that holds a picture of the fireman, his name,
which station he belongs to and a contact number for the station. If you
have any doubts about a caller - CONTACT the station on 01757 702453 and
verify his ID. If you are still not sure - then arrange with the fire
station a time when the fireman can call back and see you.

Fire fighters from Red and Blue watch don't only fight fires and save lives, they also play a vital and pro-active role when it comes to safety in our homes. For instance do you have an escape route planned and practiced in case of fire? Do you know your best route of exit from an upstairs bedroom? If you answer is "No" to both these questions - then these are the boys to contact. Don't wait until its too late!
